In amongst the whirlwind of packing for your great adventure there are always some important items that fade into the background and are often forgotten. So we’ve made a list, here they are, make sure you’ve packed them!
This is so easy to forget. No doubt the USBs and wall chargers are packed or on your packing list but the fact that your going to a different continent often completely slips through the gaps… Make sure you have got a universal power adapter otherwise you’ll have some trouble fitting your EU plug into an Australian socket. Don’t forget to pack this one!
Whilst we’re on the topic of power, grab yourself a small power bank. They are worth their weight in gold! When you find yourself in the city somewhere and your phone dies you’ll soon be wishing that you had one stashed in your pack. They are inexpensive and quickly give your phone battery life.
With any luck you wont need this one, but when it comes to your passport it’s better to be safe than sorry. Take a photo of it with your phone or tablet, so that you have a digital copy just in case. It’s also super handy to have in order to avoid getting your passport out of your bag every time that you need to write down your passport number etc.
Going to hostels? You’ll want a lock. Most hostels have lockers where you can lock up your valuables. Bringing one with you will give you some piece if mind and save you the bother of carting your bags around as you explore. If your going to the USA be sure to get a TSA approved lock. We did forget to pack a lock, you only realize with some items once you need them.
Zip Lock Bags
Zip lock bags have so many uses, you simply must not forget to pack them! Keep your phone dry, your clothes in order and exploding shampoo bottles contained. These are just a few suggested uses, no doubt you’ll be able to muster up a few more ideas while travelling with them.
This is definitely one that you probably haven’t heard of but it needs to be in that pack of yours. It’s the same as a sleeping bag cram bag, but, fill one with all of your clothes, tighten the straps down and there you have it, all your clothes are now taking up a third of the space! These things are too good not to have, you must not forget to pack it!
We know that this is the boring stuff but it’ll make your first day travelling that bit easier if you have the hard copies of where you’ll be going and what you’ll be doing over the first few days. Trust us, we made the mistake of having this information all on emails, which is only useful if you have internet connection. Put that mind at rest and print off a weeks worth of confirmation/booking information emails.
No matter where you are going or what you’ll be doing at some point it’s going to rain and when that happens, two types of travellers will appear: Those who packed their rain jackets and those in bin bags/ tourist ponchos. Do us all a favor, don’t reinforce the silly looking poncho wearing tourist stereotype, don’t forget to pack a small rain jacket.
This one is serious. The animal known for being, by far the biggest killer of humans is the Mosquito. Applying insect repellent can save you months of illness and recovery time.
Save yourself some money – Remember the bring long a water bottle. It’s one of our most used and most important items! Don’t forget to pack it.
